What is Galerie Martel, and how is it connected to Kuala Lumpur?
Galerie Martel is a Paris gallery founded in 2008, one of the first to treat comics as fine art. Its artists include Lorenzo Mattotti, Art Spiegelman, Tomi Ungerer and Robert Crumb. WM Arte Gallery brings its programme to Kuala Lumpur.
Co-founder Simone Mattotti is the link between the two galleries. Galerie Martel's Paris collection also includes work by Chris Ware, Emil Ferris, Charles Burns, Daniel Clowes, José Muñoz and Simon Hanselmann; WM Arte can enquire on your behalf for delivery to Kuala Lumpur.
Joint shows have included Galerie Martel: 15 Years of Graphic Art (Eslite Spectrum, Kuala Lumpur, 2023) and an invitation-only Louis Vuitton Travel Book: Exclusive Originals evening.
